Tesla care at its best

A Canadian couple are praising Tesla’s rapid response after their Tesla car was smashed in a highway incident in Oregon.

Uninjured in the collision, the couple – Geoff and Helen, say traffic had come to a standstill on the single-lane highway when they were hit from behind.

“Two minutes after impact my phone rang and it was someone from Tesla saying they detected a collision and asking if I was OK,” Geoff says in a Facebook post shared by a friend at the Wellington Electric Car Centre in New Zealand.

“Later, two roadside assistance specialists from Tesla helped get the car into tow mode and talked us through a variety of other procedures. Then this morning, someone from the safety engineering division called me to ask how I could suggest the car be made even safer still,” Geoff says.

“You cannot imagine better after sale care than that!!”

The Wellington Electric Car Company spokesman, who declined to be named, says he communicated with Geoff and Helen and gained their permission to repeat their post.

“It’s a testament to Tesla’s engineering and aftercare,” the spokesman says.

The couple’s Tesla Model S 85 was extensively damaged and is in a Portland Tesla-approved body shop awaiting what could be “many months” of repairs.

Although their “Great West Coast Road Trip” of the USA has ended on the third day for the couple, they are amazed they are uninjured – apart from Geoff having a seatbelt bruise on his thigh and Helen a sore chest.

“Teslas are without any doubt the safest car to be in when an accident occurs,” Geoff says. “Their impact-reduction construction is legendary and we found that out first hand!!”

The Wellington Electric Car Company spokesman says he learned Tesla also offered to send a paramedic and helicopter to the pair immediately after the collision.

He shared the Facebook post because he wanted New Zealand Tesla owners to see how safe their cars are and the type of response Tesla provides in an incident.
