Electric SUVs feature in Paris motor show

Luxury electric SUVs are a main focus of the Paris motor show open to the public October 4-14.

The Mercedes-Benz EQC SUV due in New Zealand and Australia next year will feature along with the Audi e-tron and others.

Media get a chance to check out the offerings at Mondial de l’Auto in Paris on October 2.

More than a million people are expected, based on the last show in 2016.

EVs and hybrids are expected to be popular with restrictions on carbon dioxide emissions and diesel and petrol power looming in parts of Europe.

Kia will show its new electric SUV the Kia Niro EV.

Renault has its “SUV-inspired” K-ZE electric at the show, along with a luxury electric and autonomous concept car, as part of its electrification plans.

Peugeot launches its electric sports coupe concept the e-Legend at the show as part of Groupe PSA’s drive towards 15 electrified models within two years.

Citroen, from the same parent company, will reveal its first plug-in hybrid SUV at the show based on the C5 Aircross. It will also have its DS 3 Crossback premium SUV which will have an electric version available.

The BMW 3 Series, which includes plans for a plug-in hybrid, is the mainstay of BMW’s show display.

Hybrids are expected from Toyota too.

Test drives are planned around the Place de la Concorde using electric, hybrid and hydrogen cars.

Some auto makers like Volkswagen and Ford of Europe aren’t there, as the show alternates with Frankfurt as Europe’s major car event.
