Video: Nissan reveals new EV concept

A sporty new electric, the IMS concept ‘elevated sports sedan’, has been unveiled by Nissan at the Detroit auto show.

The all-wheel drive with a 115kWh battery having more than 600km range was announced at the North American International Auto Show, which is in Detroit from January 14-27.

Nissan says the IMS features revolutionary new proportions, a sporty exterior and a lounge-like raised cabin for easy access with an elevated ride height including 22-inch alloy wheels.

It intends introducing seven new EVs within the next three years and says the IMs is the latest in a series of advanced Nissan EV concepts that includes the recent Nissan IDs and IMx models.

Earlier, Nissan displayed the Nissan Leaf e+ with 62kWh battery at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The IMs has a new EV platform with dual front and rear electric motors delivering 360kW of power and 800Nm torque, and a flat, high-capacity battery pack underneath the passenger compartment.

“There are two distinct breakthroughs in the design of the Nissan IMs,” Nissan executive design director Satoru Tai says. “First, the exterior’s fresh proportions, simple shape and dynamic movement are very clean, yet powerful and emotional. Second, the landscape projection theme of the interior is sophisticated, spacious, inviting, interactive and seamless, with a unique passenger seating layout. The IMs exterior signals that the driver and passengers are about to experience something entirely new once inside.”

A glass roof, thin pillars, super-flush side glass and handle-less doors are included.

The B-pillar-less design allows rear doors to open rearward for better cabin access and there’s no traditional centre console.

The driver display features a floating clear screen with dual layers.

Wing cameras replace side view mirrors and fold into the body in autonomous driving mode.

The exterior has a special “liquid metal” paint, the colours inspired by kimonos

Inside are two front seats, one rear “premier seat” and two rear outboard seats.
