Kiwi brothers fly the EV flag in Mexico

Kiwi Formula E Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver Mitch Evans hopes to do better than his Santiago ePrix sixth placing in the Mexico City race on February 16.

Brother Simon is also competing at Mexico City in the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy second round, after winning the inaugural event in Saudi Arabia on December 15. It’s a support series to the Formula E programme.

“We’ve set a really good pace so far in this season – we had a tough start in Marrakesh and in Santiago qualifying compromised the race,” Mitch Evans says.

“In Mexico we will be concentrating on getting qualifying right so that we put ourselves in the best position to compete for a podium. It’s great to have my brother competing alongside me in the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy. Simon won the first race in Ad Diriyah so hopefully we can both share some success in Mexico.”

Mexico City’s Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit is the highest on the ABB FIA Formula E Championship calendar at 2.2km above sea level, with the low air pressure and oxygen levels providing challenges.

The lower the air pressure the harder it is to cool the powertrain and battery of the all-electric Formula E race cars.

Nissan joined Formula E for this season and is using the series to demonstrate the performance side of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the brand’s vision for changing how cars are driven, powered and integrated into society.

Its team had an impressive round in Chile, starting on pole and leading for two-thirds of the race.

Nissan also has its new Leaf in the company’s display at the Mexico circuit’s fan eVillage.

The fifth season of Formula E is being contested over 13 races in 12 cities around the world.
