Huge online response to Kia Niro EV

Kia New Zealand has released further details on the forthcoming Niro EV SUV, following a huge online response since the vehicle was announced in 2018.

The New Zealand distributor says the online response was unprecedented with thousands of people signing up to the Kia Motors web page for more information.

“We’ve been very encouraged by the huge response to the Niro EV to date,” says Kia Motors New Zealand general manager Todd McDonald. “Its combination of appealing design and SUV practicality appears to have been a massive hit with local fans.”

Kia wants to capitalise on that interest with the launch of two versions within the next few months; the Kia Niro EV EX 289 for $67,990 and the Kia Niro EV EX 455 for $73,990.

The 455 model has a 64kWh lithium-ion polymer battery that delivers an impressive 455 kilometres, the lower-priced version is fitted with a 39.2kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack that provides a range of up to 289 kilometers from a single charge. Both models have the same well-appointed EX equipment levels, with the only difference being the battery and range.

“By providing two power options at different price points we’re giving buyers the opportunity to decide which Niro EV best suits their requirements – even the 289 kilometre range is far superior to some fully electric cars on the market and the 455 kilometre option is simply stunning,” says McDonald.

However, he is urging those who are interested to register on the website if they haven’t yet done so or talk to their Kia dealer, in light of a similarly strong overseas response, as it is already predicted that overwhelming demand could lead to shortages

Buyers who secure a Kia Niro EV will also get an added bonus, with both variants offering 3-years free scheduled servicing or up to 45,000kms, whichever comes first. This is on top of Kia’s 5-year/100,000km warranty programme, a 7-year/160,000km high voltage battery warranty and roadside assist package.
