MG’s first EV at Geneva show

An electric MG could be on sale in the United Kingdom later this year.

The five-seat MG eZS, a version of its smallest SUV and part of its China line-up is expected to be brought to Europe after being shown at the Geneva Motor Show, March 7-17.

Few details are available, but it’s reported to have around a 300-400km range.

“With the launch of our MG ZS electric SUV we’re delighted to be entering the electric car market at such an exciting time,” MG sales and marketing head Daniel Gregorious says.

MG re-launched in New Zealand in late February under its Chinese parent company SAIC Motor and is seeking Kiwi dealers.

SAIC has taken the distribution back from British Motor Distributors, operated by John Fairhall. While answering to Australia, the ‘lease has been signed’ on a New Zealand office and former Mercedes-Benz Vans national sales manager Anthony MacLean appointed as brand manager.

The MG3, ZS, and GS in the New Zealand line-up all place emphasis on value. The ZS has a starting price of NZ$23,990. Given that value, an electric version of the ZS could become New Zealand’s cheapest new EV.

Australia has about 35 MG dealerships and could also see the eZS offered as an option depending on market demand.
