“Buss Lightyear” electric bus trial for Christchurch

Buss Lightyear is the name given an electric bus being trialled by Red Bus Christchurch.

The two-month trial started in March with the e-bus travelling the 100 Wigram-Palms route from March 11, leaving from Halswell School.

The city’s first operational electric bus from Kiwi Bus Builders in Tauranga will provide valuable first-hand operational experience of battery electric buses on Christchurch roads ahead of its three ADL Enviro200E electric buses arriving mid-2019.

Buss Lightyear’s performance will be checked through its telematics monitoring system which provides real-time feedback on acceleration, braking, cornering and speed; as well as driver and customer feedback.

Its name was selected through a competition run by Red Bus Christchurch
