Mitsubishi Motors came third in the market.

Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand continues to grow, taking third spot in the market for the 2018 financial year.

Its 12,954 sales represent 8.4% of the market share, a 0.9% increase over the previous financial year, sales helped by the Outlander’s 2570 sales, while its hybrid electric cousin Outlander PHEV had a 36% increase in registrations from 268 to 365.

It is the ninth consecutive year Mitsubishi Motors has grown in the market.

“This outcome is testament to the ongoing contribution of our entire team and outstanding dealer network, who continue to surpass our best performance year after year,” says Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand marketing and corporate affairs head Reece Congdon.

The company announced less than 12 months ago that it would aim for a 10% market share.

“We have enjoyed phenomenal success in recent years and continue to strive for sustained growth and greater market share, through a dynamic vehicle range and industry-leading customer service,” adds Congdon.

March was Mitsubishi’s Triton’s biggest month, with 594 units sold. They outsold the Toyota Hilux for the second time in three months. 5200 Tritons were sold in 2018, up from 4277 from the previous financial year.

“More and more Kiwis recognise the quality and value [Triton] offer,” says Congdon. “Seeing Triton occupying territory long held by the likes of Hilux shows that we’re heading in the right direction.”

While Triton is Mitsubishi Motor’s highest performer, Congdon says that having a dynamic range is important and reflects Kiwis’ diverse and changing lifestyles.

“With a suite of new products on the cards this year, we look forward to further evolving our high-performing line-up in the coming months.”
