Jaguar I-Pace price reduced by $15,000

The price of Jaguar’s I-Pace SUV has been reduced in New Zealand by $15,000 as sales volumes increase.

New pricing starts at $144,900 for the Jaguar I-Pace S, $154,900 for the SE model and $164,900 for the fully featured I-Pace HSE.

Jaguar NZ general manager Steve Kenchington says New Zealand will become one of the first non-government subsidised EV markets in the world to take delivery of the new model when it lands in coming months.

The pricing shows NZ’s intention to have EVs take a significant share of this emerging market and make the vehicle accessible to Kiwis, he says.

“What we have seen since the I-Pace was first announced here is that the market dynamics operate quite differently compared to countries where there are EV incentives in place; and yet this hasn’t hampered demand for this model at all,” Kenchington says.

“Jaguar has already pre-sold more I-Paces in New Zealand than in countries with much higher population densities such as Singapore, Japan and South Korea – all before the first customer vehicles have landed here.

“What this is telling us is that there is an opportunity for Jaguar to take a substantially larger share of this category,” he says.

Kenchington says Jaguar NZ operates as the distributor and pricing is often based on projected demand and their ability to work out better terms with their suppliers.

He adds that his team is working hard to negotiate better pricing and says this wouldn’t be possible without their loyal customers’ support.

The last financial year was Jaguar NZ’s best in its history in this market, he says.

Kenchington says growing interest in Formula E (featuring Kiwi driver Mitch Evans) and brother Simon Evans’ win in the I-Pace eTrophy race in Saudi Arabia have helped fuel local demand for the I-Pace.

“There was a very high level of interest once pre-sales began and since then – it has already scooped the UK, German and European Car of the Year awards, and is a top three finalist for World Car of the Year.

“In recent weeks we have seen it lift even further as more Kiwis have had the chance to experience the performance of this next generation electric vehicle,” he says.

Kenchington says the new pricing structure will take effect immediately and will include all customers who have pre-purchased the vehicle.
