Jaguar recalls I-Pace

Jaguar is voluntary recalling its electric I-Pace for model years 2019 and 2020 for a potential brake issue – although customers in New Zealand and Australia aren’t expected to be affected.

“No New Zealand customers are affected as the modifications will be made prior to delivery of their new vehicles,” says Jaguar Land Rover NZ general manager Steve Kenchington.

Australian representatives have been asked for comment.

The recall follows identification through internal engineering testing of a regulatory compliance deviation with the electrical regenerative braking system of 2019MY and certain 2020MY Jaguar I-Pace vehicles, the company says.

Jaguar Land Rover identified that in the unlikely event of an electrical regenerative brake system failure, affected vehicles do not meet the regulated standard for the time to transition brake force to the friction brake system.

“This means that the stopping distance may be potentially extended.”

A brake system software update will ensure the vehicles meet the regulatory requirements.

The modifications to affected vehicles will be free and every effort made to minimise inconvenience to the customer during the short time required for the work, Jaguar Land Rover says.
