.Longroad Energy, 40% owned by Infratil and 40% by the New Zealand Superannuation fund, has begun construction of a 243mW El Campo wind farm in Knox County, Texas.

The US-based renewable energy developer, owner and operator says two Danish pension funds, PKA and PenSam, represented by their investment manager AIP, also became long-term investors alongside Longroad, to help provide renewable electricity suitable for EV charging.

Longroad chief executive officer Paul Gaynor says the wind farm project is one of the largest investments ever made in Knox County, costing about US$335 million, and is expected to be operating by July 2020.

Longroad’s focus is on wind and solar energy development, ownership, and services in the US, one of the world’s largest and fastest growing renewable energy markets.

In May last year, Longroad announced a start on a US$300 million, 237.6mW Rio Bravo wind farm in in Starr County, South Texas.
