New VW electrics spotted in Queenstown
Two Volkswagen ID.3 EVs in disguise were snapped in Queenstown New Zealand by global EV traveller Dutchman Wiebe Wakker.
He took great delight in photographing his own converted Volkswagen Golf station wagon beside them at the Queenstown Pak’nSave charger, tweeting “Cool to have 3 electric VW LHD next to each other”.
Wakker adds “a few German blokes”, whose faces have been concealed in the photos, were testing the cars in the area but couldn’t say anything.
Plenty of dirt on the cars suggests they may have been testing at the Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds between Wanaka and Queenstown, especially as another EVtalk reader says he saw the cars travelling between Wanaka and Cromwell.
The Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model 3 were tested at the grounds last year.
Wakker will finish his 1222 day EV journey in Bluff on July 19.
He will have driven his ‘Blue Bandit’ EV 101,000km from Amsterdam to New Zealand, crossing 34 countries including Australia.
