Organisations win extension on ‘Clean Car’ consultation

The Motor Industry Association and VIA have won extensions to the consultation period for the Government’s ‘Clean Car’ plans – though only for themselves.

The MIA and its members will have until September 10 to get their submissions in, while VIA – though not its members – have until the same date.

Both had sought extensions as holidays in Japan made sourcing information difficult, alongside the complex nature of the issue.

The deadline has also been extended for other interested associations, the Ministry of Transport says, although submissions for everyone else close on August 20.

MIA chief executive officer David Crawford says the extension will allow him to gather information from members.

Even with the extension, VIA chief executive David Vinsen remains disappointed with the process.

“I do not think this is a consultation in the true sense of the word,” Vinsen says. “Minster Genter came into this with a fixed view and she hasn’t changed.”

The ‘Clean Car’ plans – even the name is being disputed by the trade – covers a feebate scheme to promote fuel efficient and electric vehicles, and an emissions standard.
