Maserati plans electrified models

Maserati will adopt hybrid and battery electric propulsion systems as part of a Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) five billion euros investment project for Italy during 2019-2021.

Announcing an innovation plan for production, electrification and autonomous driving technologies, Maserati says the new products at its Modena, Cassino and Turin (Mirafiori and Grugliasco) plants will offer unique driving modes, extended range and ultra-fast charging capabilities.

All new Maserati vehicles, including updated current models, will offer a range of autonomous driving capabilities, starting with Maserati Level 2 enhanced highway assist progressing to Level 3 with hands-off offering close to full autonomy, including the ability to manoeuvre in and out of lanes and stop safely at the roadside if the driver is unable to take control of the vehicle.

Maserati’s first hybrid electric vehicle is the Ghibli sedan which will be produced in Turin in 2020.

A new BEV sports car will be produced in the Modena plant early next year, where major production line upgrades are underway to accommodate its electric powertrain and a dedicated customisation workshop will be created.

Next up will be a new Maserati SUV, to be built at Cassino.

The first pre-series cars are expected by 2021.

New GranTurismo and GranCabrio electric models will be produced at Turin.

About 800 million euros will go towards producing the new SUV and a further 800 million euros for the electrified models.

The FCA investment plan for Italy includes 13 new or significantly updated FCA models and electrified versions of 12 new or existing models, including the Maserati products.

The recently announced all-new electric version of the Fiat 500 will be produced at Mirafiori, and a new premium vehicle for Alfa Romeo is to be produced at Pomigliano.
