The eBike Expo returns in November

eBike Expo 2019

Electric bikes and e-scooters are everywhere with thousands of Kiwis using them daily, prompting the return of the eBike Expo in Auckland on November 15 and 16.

Following the success of the inaugural eBike Expo last year, Icon Conference and Event Management announces it’s back at the Cloud on Queens Wharf with the latest technology and trends, experts, test rides and the chance to get an e-bike built and fitted for yourself.

“With heightened interest in environmental responsibility, there’s no better time to join the eBike revolution,” Icon Conference and Event Management managing director Marleen Goedhart says.

“E-bikes and e-scooters are one of the lowest carbon emitting modes of transport available today, combining light exercise with a healthy dose of fun.”

With Swedish student Greta Thunberg inspiring a generation of youngsters to do something about our emissions-intensive way of life, e-bikes and e-scooters offer a powerful route for making a personal practical difference, Goedhart says.

The Sustainable Business Network estimates that a daily 10km each way commute by e-bike will save around $700 annually in fuel and reduce your carbon footprint by nearly one tonne of carbon dioxide.

Charging an e-bike from a home socket costs around 10c and will keep you going for up to 70km at 32km/h.

Rapid acceleration in demand for e-bikes and e-scooters is revealed in Statistics New Zealand figures. Last year, more than 47,000 came into the country.

Goedhart says demand is driving rapid evolution of e-bike technology, with the Government showing considerable interest in creating enabling infrastructure such as bike lanes and paths.

She urges people to check out the eBike Expo and take one for a ride.
