EV Maritime launched
Michael Eaglen has stepped down as McMullen & Wing chief executive officer after eight years to establish a new business in partnership with the same company.
He’s now the co-founder and chief executive officer of EV Maritime, newly established to advance research and development towards getting electric ferries operating in Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour and surrounds.
McMullen & Wing has been working towards just that.
“Our vision has been to play a leading role in Auckland becoming one of the world’s first cities to enjoy a significant fleet of battery electric fast commuter ferries, and ultimately for Auckland to become a model for decarbonisation of harbour cities around the world,” Eaglen says.
“This month I have partnered with McMullen & Wing in establishing a new business, EV Maritime, to advance the research and development and to lead the introduction of our new ferries to the market.”
Eaglen thanks Auckland’s largest ferry operator, Fullers 360, for financial and practical assistance provided towards the electric ferry effort.
He says McMullen & Wing will remain closely connected with the EV Maritime journey, providing both technical expertise and outstanding manufacturing capabilities now and into the future.
McMullen & Wing will be steered by a leadership team comprising projects manager Craig Sutherland, technical manager Jeff Porter, production manager Ben Porter and finance and administration manager Craig Low, under the direction of David Porter and Terry Porter.
Eaglen says EV Maritime will provide zero emission maritime innovation from New Zealand to the world.
