Berlin for 4th Tesla Gigafactory
Tesla’s fourth Gigafactory will be near Berlin, the chief executive officer Elon Musk confirms.
That’s just after Tesla announced its third Gigafactory in Shanghai, China, is nearly completed.
It also has Gigafactories in Buffalo, New York, and one still under construction in Reno, Nevada.
“Berlin is great,” says Musk. “I love Berlin.”
He has for years suggested a Gigafactory might be built in Europe, and aims to build up to 12 globally.
Tesla expects the German Gigafactory could be running by 2021.
Musk says it will start with Model Y crossovers, batteries and power trains, and it could perhaps produce Model 3s similar to the Shanghai plant.
The company also assembles EVs at a former Toyota plant in Fremont, California, has a seat producing factory near that, and is constructing another plant in Lathrop, California.
