Volvo is launching two new hybrid models in New Zealand, the S60 and V60.

The new S60 and V60 models were this year’s ‘World Car of the Year’ finalists and will introduce two plug-in hybrid vehicle options to this market, arriving in showrooms this month.

The new generation S60 sports sedan is the first Volvo to be built in the US.

Volvo New Zealand general manager Coby Duggan says broadening the range in the country is key to continuing the brand’s momentum.

“While there’s no question that sedans and estates have received less airtime of late with the rise in popularity of SUV’s, we can be confident that the S60 and V60 will bring a ‘uniquely Volvo’ approach to the segment, with the Scandinavian design and intuitive technology that is, as always, about making our customers’ lives safer and more convenient, regardless of which model they choose,” Duggan says.

Both the S60 and V60 will be available with the T8 ‘twin engine’ plug-in hybrid alternative and its two-litre four-cylinder T5 powertrain. It has a total combined output of 311 kilowatts, fuel consumption of 2.0 litres/100km and a CO2 rating of 46 grams per kilometre.

Volvo Cars president and chief executive Håkan Samuelsson says the new S60 is one of the most exciting Volvo cars made.

“It is a true driver’s car that gives us a strong position in the US and China sedan markets, creating more growth opportunities for Volvo Cars. In addition, the family estate driver is an important customer for our business and has been for generations. The new V60 honours that tradition, but also takes it much further,” Samuelsson says.

Both the S60 and V60 share Volvo’s scalable product architecture (SPA) platform, safety technology and infotainment system, and safety package City Safety as standard on all Volvos.

City Safety in the S60 and V60 engages auto-braking to mitigate oncoming collisions. The infotainment system is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G.

The V60 T5 AWD Momentum is available from $74,900 plus on road costs from authorised Volvo retailers nationwide.
