Auckland cycleways gearing up
Electric bike riders will have more separated cycleways in Auckland shortly.
The northwestern cycleway from Lincoln Road to Westgate opens on December 19 as part of an official ceremony for that stretch of State Highway 16 improvements with transport minister Phil Twyford expected to do the honours.
Work starts soon on the $5.3 million separated cycleway on each side of Victoria Street West in the city from Beaumont Street to Nelson Street, Auckland Transport (AT) says.

“This links the cycleways on Franklin Road and Nelson Street, so you can bike or scooter from Ponsonby to the city – all on a separated and safe bike path,” Waitemata Local Board’s transport lead Graeme Gunthorp says.
AT’s portfolio delivery director (projects) David Nelson says the work will start immediately after Christmas to minimise disruption, with the contract awarded to Downer NZ.
It’s expected to be finished late February.
