Tesla tops auto giants
Tesla’s stock has been rising fast and set a record market cap of US$78 billion, making it bigger than most OEMs other than Volkswagen.
At US$433/share, TSLA’s market cap is now $77.8 billion. This makes it bigger than OEM giants Hyundai (US$22b), Ford ($37b), General Motors ($52b), BMW ($52b) and Daimler ($60b).

Financial analyst and S3 Partners managing director Ihor Dusaniwsky tweeted this table.
Said otherwise Tesla, which sold 350,000 cars in the past year, is now “bigger” than Hyundai, which sold 4.6 million cars in 2018, and General Motors, which sold three million cars last year, combined, Zero Hedge reports.
The only OEM bigger than Tesla is Volkswagen, which recently overtook Toyota as the world’s largest automaker in sales, it adds.
Tesla stock has risen by US$200 in three months to hit a new high of US$433, remaining the world’s most short automaker (apart from some exceptions such as BYD, Aston Martin and Nio), Zero Hedge says,
Shorts means shorting, or short-selling, when an investor borrows shares and immediately sells them, hoping to get them later at a lower price, return them to the lender and pocket the difference.
Shorting is said to be much riskier than buying stocks, or what’s known as taking a long position.

Statements becoming too common that claim the Tesla Cybertruck will not comply with some countries regulations (including NZ) regarding safety issues surrounding design and materials, when pedestrian contact occurs. I wonder how the numerous trucks on our roads that present bluff fronts that are high, wide and solid can be anywhere as safe as the proposed Cybertruck.
Further, the incessant carping about a broken window on the Cybertruck’s debut I guess is just more negative blather that seems to released by expert public critics.
This truck is a challenge to bland and I understand it’s not compulsory for us all to buy one. We can’t wait to get one and enjoy something different and relatively environmentally friendly.
Conversely, if this fresh thinking was ignored that would be a shame. It won’t be and the best advice for negativists is to jog on.
