EVs to hit 20,000 in early 2020

EV registrations reached 18,689 in December 2019 and should be at 20,000 by March 2020.
That’s if the trend continues, with December’s EV figure 502 up on November’s 18,187.
The biggest rise was in used light pure electrics, December’s 10,223 registrations 236 up on November’s 9987, according to the latest Ministry of Transport figures.
New light pure electrics went up 172 – December’s 3870 registrations comparing with November’s 3698.
Used light plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) recorded 1542 registrations in December – up 54 on November’s 1488.
New light PHEV registrations rose 34 from 2845 in November to 2879 in December.
And heavy EV registrations went up by six, from 2845 to 2879.
EVs need to hit a target of 32,000 on New Zealand roads by the end of 2020 to come close to the 64,000 EV goal by the end of 2021.
