Nikola electric ute revealed

Nikola Motors has unveiled a concept ute with a battery and hydrogen fuel cell hybrid powertrain capable of 965km range.

Arizona-based Nikola, known for its fuel cell (FCEV) semi-trucks and battery electric smaller trucks, has revealed the Badger FCEV/EV ute concept which is expected to debut at the Nikola World 2020 event in September.

Nikola Corporation chief executive Trevor Milton tweeted the Nikola Badger is “the most advanced electric and hydrogen pickup, designed to take down the Ford Raptor”.

He says the ute is suitable for work, weekend getaways, towing, off-roading, can hit ski slopes without performance loss, and more.

Specs listed for the Badger show it can accelerate to 96.5km/h in 2.9 seconds, do 965km on combined FCEV/BEV, 482km range on BEV only, produce a peak 675.6kW (906hp) power, 1328.7Nm of torque, has advanced supercapacitor launch assist blending lithium ion and fuel cell, can tow about 3.6 tonnes and has a 15kW power export outlet.

The five-seat ute is 5.9 metres long, 1.8m high, 2.2m wide, has a 1.56m tray width and independent four-wheel drive.
