Zity EV car-sharing starts in Paris

Renault and Ferrovial launch EV car sharing service Zity in Paris in March.

A fleet of 500 electric Renault Zoes with Zity technology will be available to Parisians on a self-service basis using a free mobile application.

It’s a new step in the partnership between Spanish construction and infrastructure group Ferrovial, which started Zity in Madrid in 2017, and Groupe Renault which is expected to replace its EV sharing scheme Moov’in in Paris which it started in 2018 with Rousselet Group subsidiary ADA.

“The Zity electric car-sharing service in free-floating offer has many advantages, including flexible booking times and the availability of vehicles, in the right place at the right time, thanks to a high-performance application,” Groupe Renault EV and mobility services senior vice president Gilles Normand says.

Ferrovial chief executive Ignacio Madridejos says it’s an evolution of Zity’s success in Madrid, with the service likely to be extended to other cities.

Using an app, Zity users can see which Renault Zoe is closest and reserve the car instantly. When they get to the car, it can be unlocked via the app. To end the rental, the vehicle must be parked in Paris on any public sparking space above ground and locked.

If the battery falls below a minimum level the vehicle is removed from hire and recharged by Zity teams.

About 20% of the capital’s inhabitants use car-sharing.
