Supermarket EV chargers increased

About 15 more EV fast chargers will be added to Pak’nSave, New World and Four Square supermarkets.

This follows Foodstuffs securing more than $600,000 of funds though the Government’s low emission vehicles contestable fund.

The funding will enable partners Foodstuffs and ChargeNet to add the 15 chargers to the 70 already installed.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be extending this opportunity for New Zealanders to be able to charge their EVs at no cost at Foodstuffs store sites,” Foodstuffs sustainability head Mike Sammons says.

“This funding will support us to extend the network of chargers enabling more New Zealanders to adopt a low carbon lifestyle and travel emissions free.

“As a member of the Climate Leaders Coalition we are strongly committed to playing our part in the important job of reducing carbon emissions.”

Foodstuffs has carbon reduction initiatives underway including the installation of the single largest array of solar panels in New Zealand and a fleet of electric delivery vans.

Sammons says the Foodstuffs charging infrastructure can help ease ‘range anxiety’ when travelling long distances in an EV, particularly in the South Island.
