Tesla Model Y deliveries to start
Tesla is advising its crossover SUV Model Y five-seat version delivery starts soon in the US.
Several Model Y customers say on social media they’ve learned they could get their EV after March 15.
That’s consistent with what Tesla chief executive Elon Musk suggested earlier this year for the more than 500km range SUV, after unveiling the last in the ‘S3XY’ model line-up nearly a year ago.
Once customers go on Tesla’s website to confirm their availability, they are given a range of dates so they can give Tesla options to deliver the car in March, but Electrek reports it didn’t learn of any delivery options before March 15.
It says the Model Y Performance will be delivered first, owners on the US West Coast and East Coast reporting they have received the email configuration.
Tesla is offering customers who ordered the seven-seater versions the chance to reconfigure their order if they want their vehicles in March instead of 2021 when its production is scheduled, Electrek adds.
More frequent sightings of the Model Y have been reported on social media.
Its production is expected to ramp up throughout the year.
When right-hand drive versions will be available for New Zealand and Australia isn’t known at this stage.

Why cannot New Zealand drivers have the choice of LHDrive Teslas and any new LHD vehicle? LHD cars are only a minor challenge based on certainty when passing. Drivers need more space to pass safely in LHD cars due to more restricted vision of approaching vehicles and are therefore actually are safer as a greater distance between the approaching cars is required.
So, for those who know this and prefer LHD based on experience with driving LHD cars in New Zealand why can’t this happen? It happens with classic cars. They are easier to place left in the lane to the edge of the road. I have driven a number of LHD cars and own one seeing no issues except being extra careful in passing. That is more a positive than than negative.
People who are not comfortable with LHD could have the choice as clearly the other LHD world markets will ensure the RHD options will follow in time.
