Australia’s largest EV collection coming to Melbourne

Melbourne hosts Australia’s biggest EV collection when the annual Electric Vehicle Expo arrives on October 9.

Run by the Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA), the expo will see more than 100 EVs, from Teslas through to electric bikes and e-scooters, on display at the Flemington Showgrounds.

The expo launches on February 28 at the Melbourne Showgrounds, with EVs available for media to test drive.

More than 10,000 visitors are expected at the expo, with opportunities for visitors to test electric cars, bikes or scooters.

The expected record visitor numbers are indicative of the surging interest in electric cars and sustainable transport, AEVA national president Chris Nash says.

“Electric vehicles are taking off in Australia, with a huge jump in popularity in the past year, and we’re expecting record numbers at this year’s Electric Vehicle Expo in Melbourne.

“With new Victorian emissions reduction targets on the horizon, we’re expecting to see a huge increase in interest in electric vehicles in the state.”

Nash will be speaking at the launch, along with AEVA Victorian secretary Bryce Gaton and ACE Cargo Vans managing director Greg McGarvie who is providing an electric van prototype for test driving.

Other makes and models available for test rides or drives include the Hyundai Kona, Tesla Model 3, a converted Mazda Miata (MX5), and the Mitsubishi Outlander.
