Tesla continues EV production

Tesla Model Y

Tesla’s Shanghai factory in China is back in full swing after a government required shutdown due to the Covid-19 coronavirus, while its Fremont factory in California continues to operate as an “essential service”.

And Tesla’s safety measures to protect against the virus at Giga Shanghai have been shared by Chinese media, which include checking staff temperatures, factory and shuttle bus disinfection, and isolation procedures such as separate accommodation and lunches.

Even essential services (which include auto supply, repair and related facilities) have been advised to maintain “social distancing requirements” which includes standing about 1.8 metres apart in public.

Tesla chief executive Elon Musk advised workers to stay home if feeling unwell or worried about the virus, adding he will continue to work as usual.

Precautionary measures may also be taken at Tesla’s New York and Nevada factories.

Tesla’s moves and the China shutdown are not expected to greatly affect production with Model Y deliveries already started.
