Toyota/Hino work on FCEV truck

Toyota and its subsidiary Hino Motors are working on a commercial heavy-duty fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV).

A modified Hino Profia FR1AWHG truck will have two Toyota FC Stacks destined for the next-generation Toyota Mirai.

A new large-capacity high-pressure (70MPa) hydrogen tank will be developed to enable a proposed nearly 600km range.

Fast refuelling allows the truck to stay on the road longer, the new truck’s chassis specially designed to incorporate all the elements of the electrified powertrain (fuel cell stacks, hydrogen tank, AC motor and lithium-ion battery) while maintaining load capacity.

It will help Toyota and Hino achieve a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050 and allow them to further develop electrified vehicle technologies for a wide range of transport.

Toyota is putting an additional 10 heavy-duty trucks powered by the Mirai’s hydrogen fuel cell on California roads as part of Project Portal, designed to open the door to the hydrogen economy.
