Video: Double wins for Porsche Taycan and Kia

The electric Porsche Taycan has won both the 2020 World Car Awards luxury and performance car categories.

And Kia also had two wins with its Soul EV topping the urban car of the year segment while the Kia Telluride has been named the 2020 World Car of the Year.

“This is one of the hardest-fought competitions in the global automotive industry, proving that the Soul EV is a truly outstanding vehicle for drivers in towns and cities,” Kia Motors Corporation product division head and executive vice president Thomas Schemera says.

Porsche AG executive board chairman Oliver Blume says the Taycan was designed to show an electric car could provide the performance, driving pleasure and everyday comfort and usability that characterises every Porsche.

“We are very proud that the international jury of the World Car Awards believes that we have succeeded,”

The jury comprised 86 automotive journalists from 24 countries.

The road to the World Car Awards 2020 winners’ announcements included a stop in Los Angeles in November for the sixth annual L.A. Test Drives event before the World Car Finals were launched in New Delhi, India from the Delhi auto show on February 5 when the top 10 and top five finalists in five categories were revealed.

The top three finalists in each category were announced on March 3 and the winners on April 8, which included the Mazda3 being named as the 2020 World Car Design of the Year.

This is the 15th year of the World Car Awards partnership with the New York International Auto Show which has been rescheduled to August 28 to September 6 for the public show with media preview days on August 26 and 27.

The 2021 awards will be launched then instead of in Paris.

The Global Trends Report, produced annually by Cision Insights and Autoneum, is scheduled for release in lieu of the usual presentation during the media breakfast at the New York show.
