Porsche deliveries down 5% due to COVID-19

Porsche delivered 53,125 cars globally in the first quarter of 2020, just 5% down compared to the previous period in 2019.
Blaming the drop on the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis, Porsche says China is its biggest single market with 14,098 Porsche cars delivered there in the first quarter of 2020, that country recovering with most Porsche centres in China reopening.
About 1391 of Porsche’s first all-electric model the Taycan have been delivered after arriving on the market at the end of 2019.
The Cayenne is the most popular model with 18,417 deliveries, then the Macan with 15,547 vehicles, the Porsche 911 model series 8482 – representing a 16% increase.
The USA took second place again with 11,994 deliveries.
“We are not alone in clearly feeling the effects of the coronavirus crisis on our deliveries,” Porsche AG sales and marketing executive board member Detlev von Platen says.
“But our focus now is on standing together with our business partners worldwide. Working together, we are in a position to react quickly and appropriately to further developments.
“After this challenging first quarter, we are now actively preparing to restart production. We are confident that the outlook is positive, not least because we see a clear recovery in the Chinese market; almost all of our Porsche centres there have already reopened.”
China and USA remain the strongest markets
Customers in Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East received 22,031 cars.
In Germany, Porsche handed 5214 cars to customers, contributing to a total 16,787 units delivered in the European market.
