Video: Tesla ups pace on Gigafactory 3 Phase 2

Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai second phase construction may be finished even quicker than forecast.

The first stage was completed in 168 days (nearly six months) starting from approval of permits, but news sites report progress on the larger second phase is faster and likely to be well within the initial October prediction.

reports that video footage from Tesla fan and drone operator Jason Yang reveals the Phase 2 development’s speed.

Two major buildings under construction in this phase – 2A and 2B – are well underway, Yang saying 2A foundations are about completed and steel structures are going up while 2B’s foundations should start soon.

Production at the Shangahai factory was suspended during the COVID-19 outbreak there but resumed on February 10 and is now back in full swing.

Gigafactory 1 in Nevada has been incomplete for years, while the Shanghai Gigafactory is held as a standard for other Tesla factory projects, including Gigafactory 4 underway near Berlin.

The COVID-19 pandemic in the US led to Tesla suspending production at its Fremont factory which it hopes to return to production around May 4.

Shanghai now the only Tesla factory able to make its EVs, weekly production recently reaching 3000 units, Inside EVs reports, showing a later video and stills of the China plant.

Model 3s are mainly produced at Shanghai with Model Y production expected to step up after second phase factory completion.
