Nissan Japan contractor tests positive for COVID-19

A Marelli employee working at Nissan’s Oppama plant in Japan, which includes Leaf EV production, tested positive for COVID-19 on May 20.

Affected sites were disinfected and the employee is recuperating at home and will be moved to a quarantined facility, Nissan says, adding it regrets any anxiety or concern caused.

Employees who had close contact with the infected employee have been requested to stay at home.

Nissan says the safety of communities, stakeholders and employees is its highest priority and it has implemented proactive actions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in its global operations.

Japan’s Nissan production in May and June has been adjusted due to COVID-19, in addition to its previous ongoing production adjustments.

Nissan will adjust production at three of its manufacturing facilities in Japan in May and June.

The adjustment is due to the continuing decline in demand in the automobile market, as well as the effect of COVID-19 on the delivery of some parts, Nissan says.

Vehicle production will be suspended at the Oppama plant in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, on May 25 and June 1, and at the Tochigi plant on May 21 and June 1-19.

Nissan Motor Kyushu vehicle production will be suspended on the first production line on May 29, then from June 1-5 and night shift vehicle production will be suspended on the second production line from June 8-26.
