Chargefox hits 100,000 EV charging milestone

Chargefox has passed more than 100,000 EV charging sessions and powered more than 1.4 million carbon-free kilometres.

“Our goal has always been to reduce road transport emissions and it’s awesome to see the impact of all those charging sessions,” the Australian-based EV charging company tweets.

The 100,000 milestone has been achieved on more than 1700 plugs across Australia and New Zealand, with someone plugging into the Chargefox network every five minutes, it adds.

Chargefox has about 500 public chargers on the network, about 10% of which are fast DC or ultra-rapid chargers.

“We’ve got plans to triple this and grow the full public network to thousands of chargers in the years to come,” it says.

The company has partnerships with some of the world’s leading car manufacturers, including Jaguar Land Rover, BMW and Nissan.

Chargefox will have 22 stations connecting drivers in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns, with additional stations in Perth and Tasmania.

Its wider charging network includes AC chargers (from 5kW), to fast chargers (around 50kW) to ultra-rapid chargers (350 – 475kW), the latter able to deliver up to 400km range in 15 minutes.

“Our vision is that one day 100% of road transport will be powered by renewable energy and from day one our ultra-rapid chargers will be accessible to all Australian EV drivers,”​​ Chargefox co-founder and chief executive Marty Andrews says.

Chargefox’s free app is available on iTunes and Android and allows EV drivers to quickly find a charger and pay for a charging session. The app also shows helpful live data like what plugs are already in use, the cost (if any) and what plug types are at each station.
