Three hybrids from Renault

The Clio E-Tech hybrid (HEV) and Captur and Megane E-Tech plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are offered by Renault.

Renault says it’s launching its E-Tech hybrid range in the two variants to adapt to any customer’s needs (long distance, urban multi-purpose, etc.) depending on the preferred technology, while limiting CO2 emissions and stemming fuel use, even for long trips.  

The Clio E-Tech hybrid can provide up to 80% of city driving time with all-electric power, for fuel consumption savings of up to 40% over a petrol engine in the urban cycle, the company says.

The new Captur E-Tech and Mégane E-Tech PHEVs have up to 135km range in mixed use (WLTP), up to 65km range in urban use (WLTP City) and more than 50km in 100% electric mode.

These three models join all-electric ones like the new Zoe, new Twingo Z.E. and Kangoo Z.E.

The hybrid trio available for trial and purchase overseas aren’t quite ready for the New Zealand and Australian markets, awaiting final homologation for both.

It will be in the pipeline, Renault New Zealand sales and marketing manager Warren Willmot says.

A Renault Australia spokesperson says none of the trio are slated for Australia at this stage and no firm timetable is available on when they might be.

Pricing and other specs should be available closer to the time.

Renault says the E-Tech range aims is to make the electric experience and driving pleasure accessible to as many people as possible, in a context where customer choices are more than ever pragmatic, reasoned and smart.

It adds the expertise acquired in EVs and Formula 1 now enable it to offer dynamic and efficient hybrid powertrains, a new and exclusive technology that has been the subject of more than 150 patents.

E-Tech vehicles offer systematic electric starting, driving pleasure at all times and energy efficiency at the highest level, Renault says.
