Auckland EV day a success
About 40 EVs and more than 60 people made for a memorable Auckland EV Owners day out at the Auckland Radiology car park in Henderson on June 28.
A big selection of Teslas from Steve West’s Roadster to Model 3s were joined by a Chrysler Volt, five Hyundai Konas, some Nissan Leafs, a Nissan e-NV200 van and a BMW i3.
Tesla Owners Club representatives handed out some goodies like rubber footwell mats while many brought a plate for a grand afternoon tea.
The post COVID-19 gathering produced some regulars and new faces.
It was among one of the best EV turnouts in Auckland for years with the weather just holding off long enough, says Kathryn Trounson of the Better NZ Trust which coordinated the event.
She says people came from as far afield as Hamilton and near Dargaville.
Trounson thanks Ari McGregor of the Auckland Radiology group for the gathering idea and providing the car park for the afternoon event and says visitors discussed plans for the Leading the Charge EV road trip from September 26-October 3.
She’d also like to see another EV gathering held.

It would be great if we have the choice of importing LHD Cybertrucks when available as “special vehicles” for those who would want that option? Thousands of classic USA cars are in NZ. Their LHD side layout is not to my knowledge a significant factor in road accidents in NZ when compared to RHD layout.
The Model 3 Tesla had a wait time of 2.5+/- years from production beginning in USA until supply began to early purchasers in NZ. The Cybertruck
may well be longer. In the interests of getting going on environmental damage mitigation, I’m sure their would be plenty of uptake in NZ for such an option. And, life is short! And, it’s the most interesting and innovative vehicle in many generations.
