AC Cobra truly electric

Two new models launched in the 2020 AC Cobra range include one with a full electric powertrain.

AC Cars (England) is launching a limited edition run of zero emission cars, the first EVs to bear the AC marque.

This model is called the “AC Cobra Series1 electric” and just 58 cars will be made celebrating 58 years since the first AC Cobra was produced.

The car will look identical to the first AC Cobra made in 1962 but will sound totally different.

It will have a similar ladder frame, adapted where necessary for the electric drive components, including batteries.

Upgrades for the electric car include steering, brakes and more – all designed to provide ultimate 2020 standards of ride and handling which do not compromise the 1962 style and appeal. The body will be constructed of high-grade composite and the car will have a traditional AC Cobra interior.

It will also have a 54kWh battery with 240km range, accelerate to 100km/h in 6.7 seconds, develop 500Nm peak torque (250Nm continuous), have 230kW of power, 6kW charging capacity and weigh under 1250kg.

Deliveries start in the last quarter of 2020 and the suggested retail price is about 138,000 pounds plus on road charges.

It will only be available in four colours; AC electric blue, electric black, electric white and electric green.

“I am convinced we have given AC a bright future,” says AC Cars chief executive Alan Lubinsky, adding the company has more exciting plans ahead.
