Go electric with JLR subscription service

Pivotal Jag subscription

The electric Jaguar I-Pace and latest plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport are available to Jaguar Land Rover’s Pivotal subscribers.

The new service offers all-inclusive, no-commitment premium subscription, allowing members to swap models or pause membership to suit.

Pivotal ensures customers can experience the latest technology in the JLR range, swapping between models if they wish every six months.

JLR New Zealand says it’s researching the opportunity of a subscription based offering but there’s no decision yet on whether this meets market and consumer expectations.

Car subscriptions are forecast to account for 10% of European and US sales by 2025, equivalent to some 16 million vehicles.

Pivotal, backed by JLR’s venture capital and mobility services arm InMotion, will initially be looking to grow and integrate with approved JLR retailers to supply the vehicles for the service.

It offers an alternative to the traditional vehicle ownership and leasing plans, JLR says. A single monthly payment covers the rental cost, insurance, tax, servicing and repairs – leaving just fuel to pay for. Multiple membership tiers are available and members can put their subscription on hold from month to month.

Pivotal is targeted at the 20% of young professionals who wouldn’t normally own a car.

“Traditional car ownership may not provide the flexibility required by some in the modern world, and with Pivotal we are able to offer an alternative, premium option,” Pivotal managing director Isobel Dando says.

JLR UK managing director Rawdon Glover says: “The future of mobility has never been more in the spotlight and our customers are increasingly looking for more flexibility in the way they interact with us.

“Through Pivotal and our network of retail partners, even more drivers can get behind the wheel of a Jaguar or Land Rover and we’re excited to see how this new initiative fits in a post-pandemic world where personal transport will undoubtedly be in more demand.”

Pivotal will secure JLR a place in the Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) market, an industry forecast to exceed US$52 billion by 2027.
