The electric Cadillac Lyriq with a claimed 482km range has been unveiled by General Motors.

To be built in China and North America, the Lyriq will have options of rear-wheel-drive and performance all-wheel-drive systems.

The Lyriq will have GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance highway feature and offer an augmented reality head-up display with a near plane indicating speed, direction and more, and a far plane displaying transparent navigation signals and other important alerts.

It will also have remote self-parking.

GM does wax lyrical about the Lyriq’s exterior lighting features, however, particularly the way it “recognises” the approaching driver by lighting up in a choreographed sequence while also preparing the cabin.

A 33-inch driver information centre and infotainment screen covers nearly the whole instrument panel, GM explaining the display has the highest pixel density in the automotive industry which can display more than a billion colours.

GM aims to invest US$20 billion in electric and autonomous vehicles to 2025, and the GMC electric Hummer ute is due out late 2021 with the new Ultium battery system.
