Micromobility trips surge
The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped the global micromobility market.
Just how that has happened will be covered by renowned mobility analyst Horace Dediu in a virtual keynote address titled Micromobility’s Moment on September 10, 9am Pacific Time/noon Eastern Time (US).
Dediu coined the term “micromobility” and cofounded Micromobility Industries which consults with corporates, investors, governments, start-ups, and anyone interested in learning more about micromobility and its market reach.
He shares his analysis during the keynote in what he believes will be a breakthrough moment for the micromobility industry as he expects a massive recovery, especially with cities globally grappling with transport and social distancing.
Electric bikes, e-scooters and other e-mobility forms have taken off since COVID-19 hit as people globally look for alternatives to cars and public transport for the city commute.

Dediu was a keynote speaker at the ITSNZ T-Tech19 conference in Christchurch last year, covered in EVs and Beyond
, where he talked about the rise of micromobility.
The Micromobility Newsletter reports micromobility trips surged 60% in a year.
Between 2018 and 2019, shared micromobility trips in the US soared from 84 million to 136m, a National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) report says.
Scooters accounted for most new trips, more than doubling in use, while bike ridership grew 10%.
NACTO numbers also show 45% of micromobility trips replaced a car trip last year.
