Big Tesla Powerpack shipment due in NZ

A large shipment of Tesla Powerpacks is reported to be coming to New Zealand.

Tesla tracker VedaPrime says it has learned 46 Powerpacks (232kWh each) are on the way to New Zealand.

It is unknown if they will all be used for one project or more.

has previously reported on several projects where Tesla batteries are being used, including Watercare and Mercury.

New Zealand gets more than 80% of its electricity from renewable sources, aiming to switch to 100% by 2050 with Tesla’s Powerpacks, Powerwall, solar panels and other products likely to be included in the plan.

Every Powerpack contains 16 individual battery pods, each with an isolated DC-DC converter, with incorporated electronics optimising performance.

The Powerpack system can be configured in various arrangements and is used in many countries with one of the more notable the South Australia Hornsdale Power Reserve project.

The SA project involves a 150MW/194MWh grid-connected energy storage system co-located with the Hornsdale Wind Farm.

An A$71 million expansion project to increase battery capacity there by 50% was completed in September this year.
