AV safety expert joins Velodyne Lidar board
Former Waymo adviser and US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) chair Deborah Hersman has been appointed to Velodyne Lidar’s board of directors.
Hersman has nearly 30 years of government, non-profit and private sector executive leadership experience in transportation, safety and policy.
Velodyne Lidar ushered in a new era of autonomous technology with the invention of real-time surround view lidar sensors and provides sensors and software for autonomous vehicles (AVs), advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), robotics, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), smart cities and more.
Hersman served as the first chief safety officer of Waymo, Google’s self-driving car project. Following her role on the NTSB she was president and chief executive of the National Safety Council and currently serves on the US electric and gas utility NiSource board of directors.
