Video: Electric boats feature at Venice Boat Show

Electric power was a centrepiece of the Salone Nautico Venezia (Venice Boat Show) from May 29 to June 5.

The electrics were among more than 250 boats on display with ABB demonstrating some along with boat charging.

Luca Ferrari piloted e-boat Anvera Elab, showing how it can “go like a rocket” in an electric boat time trial.

ABB also demonstrated how electric transport is just as crucial on water as it is on land, especially for Venice, Italy, which is vulnerable to climate change.

Cesare Malagrida, ABB Italy marine and ports account manager, explains how electrics and hydrogen power are combining to make shipping more sustainable.

Boat show organiser Vela commercial director Alberto Bozzo says rechargeable electric boats are making a splash but that more partners, recharging stations and infrastructure are needed.
