Mazda confirms 25% EV ratio by 2030

As part of its “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom” technology and product development policy, Mazda Motor Corporation says its production ratio of electric vehicles will be 25% by 2030.

Mazda says it will introduce five hybrid models, five plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models and three battery electric vehicles (BEV) to Japan, Europe, the USA, China and ASEAN countries between 2022 and 2025 using its Skyactiv multi-solution scalable architecture.

It says several more electrified products will be introduced between 2025 and 2030.

The Hiroshima-based manufacturer says it will concentrate on five policies, being its building block strategy, multi-solution electrification, an accident-free society, next-generation mobility services and carbon neutrality.  

“We are continuously enhancing our internal combustion engines (Skyactiv-X and new straight-six engines) and electrification technologies as part of the Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, which is used in transverse power units in our small products and longitudinal power units in our large products,” Mazda says. 

“We will deliver multiple electrification solutions to meet various customers’ needs, environmental regulations and the electric power generating infrastructure in a market. In addition, we will introduce Mazda’s “SKYACTIV EV Scalable Architecture” in 2025 for EVs with various vehicle sizes and body types,” it says.  

Mazda says it is now working on deploying a human-centric autonomous driving system, the “Mazda Co-pilot Concept”, in its vehicles. 

The Mazda Co-Pilot constantly monitors the driver’s condition and if a sudden change in the driver’s physical condition is detected, switches to autonomous driving, bringing the car to a safe place, stopping the car and places an emergency call. It says Mazda Co-Pilot 1.0 will be introduced in large products from 2022.

Mazda says it also intends to develop fundamental software technology to be able to accommodate for next-generation Mobility as a Service (Maas) and update vehicle functions Over the Air (OTA).

Five Japanese OEM companies including Mazda will jointly develop standard engineering specifications of next-generation in-vehicle communication devices to push for a standardised communication system to provide safer and stress-free connected services sooner.

Mazda says it will push forward with the development of next-generation Electric/Electronic Architecture (EEA), which will enable speedy processing of data from inside and outside a vehicle.
