Electric touring series third round this weekend

EV touring series Pure ETCR is ready to light up the streets of Copenhagen from August 6 to 8 with the first street circuit on the calendar since the ETCR started in June this year.

The event marks the season’s halfway point with three automotive manufacturers featuring at five different locations.

They are Hyundai Motorsport, Romeo Ferraris – M1RA and Cupra X Zengo Motorsport.

Hyundai Motorsport aims to take the lead in the drivers’ and manufacturers’ championships, the team still on the hunt for its first King of the Weekend honour, with all four drivers registering victories last time out in Aragón with the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR.

The team sits in second in the manufacturers’ standings with Jean-Karl Vernay also second in the drivers’ championship. The team aims to continue its form in Copenhagen and overhaul the 41-points deficit to the lead of the standings.

The Copenhagen PURE ETCR draw on August 5 will decide the two pools for the weekend. Drivers will have a chance to learn the new circuit in two free practice sessions on Friday, before the battles of Rounds 1 and 2 on Saturday August 7. Round 3’s time trial on the morning of Sunday August 8 will set the starting grid for Round 4’s Super Finals.

“As our first street circuit of the season, everyone will be on a steep learning curve in Copenhagen, as no team or driver has previous experience racing at Bellahøj Park,” Hyundai Motorsport marketing and PR director Stefan Henrich says.

Each ETCR car has a Magelec Propulsion electric drive train which can provide up to 500kW peak power.

The series continues in Hungary on August 20-22 and finishes in South Korea on October 15-17.

Next year the ETCR competes in the FIA eTouring Car World Cup.
