Final ETCR round the decider

The inaugural season of the Pure ETCR electric touring car racing ends with the final round at the Pau-Arnos E-Circuit in France on October 15-17.

The third event at the Hungaroring in Hungary saw Mikel Azcona (Zengő Motorsport X, Cupra e-Racer) and Phillip Eng (Romeo Ferraris M1RA, Alfa Romeo Giulia) sharing victories in the two super final races.

Azcona was crowned the King of the weekend ahead of Eng and Mattias Ekström (Zengő Motorsport X, Cupra e-Racer) who has retained the leadership in the standings, 29 points ahead of Jean-Karl Vernay (Hyundai Motorsport N, Hyundai Veloster N).

It was a mixed weekend on August 20-22 at the Hungaroring for the Hyundai Motorsport team. Although three of its drivers registered four victories in Saturday’s battle rounds, post-race penalties for Vernay and Augusto Farfus stripped them of a win apiece.

Farfus’ Hyundai Veloster N didn’t make the grid for the Pool A super final due to a technical issue that forced the team to change one of the inverters.

In that pool Eng finished ahead of Ekstrom and Jordi Gené (Zengő Motorsport X, Cupra e-Racer) respectively, while in Pool B Azcona headed off Vernay and Dániel Nagy (Zengő Motorsport X, Cupra e-Racer).

Championship points see Ekström with 273, Vernay on 244 and Azcona on 238.

Manufacturers’ standings (after round 4) are Zengo Motorsport X Cupra 536 in first, Romeo Ferraris – M1RA 470 second and Hyundai Motorsport N 443 third.
