Volkswagen New Zealand has confirmed the ID.Buzz, its fully-electric homage to the original Volkswagen van, will land here next year.

The vehicle debuted this morning on a livestream, which included Scottish actor Ewan McGregor – an enthusiast of both electric vehicles and Volkswagens.

Volkswagen’s all-new electric all-rounder has been reimagined from the legendary T1 Kombi (Bulli in Europe, Bus in America) and Volkswagen New Zealand’s Commercial Vehicles general manager, Kevin Richards, says the ID.Buzz brings a highly emotive solution that will connect generations together.

“Both the five-seater ID.Buzz and the transporter version, ID.Buzz Cargo, move the DNA of the classic Kombi into the future bringing style and practicality to modern-day, zero-emission driving.

“We’re delighted to confirm that both models will be available in the New Zealand market next year,” says Richards.

Production of the ID.Buzz gets underway in the next few months, with roll-out into the European market due for September this year.

The ID.Buzz is at the compact end of the van market, with four cubic metres of load space and seating three, or in the passenger version seating for five – at this stage it does not appear to be a ‘bus’ in the true sense.

From an EV drivetrain perspective, you get a 150kW rear engine, 77kWh battery and peak DC charging of 170kW.

More details will be released in New Zealand at 9am.
