MG’s local arm has confirmed that the first batch of its updated ZS EV has already been sold out, less than three weeks after the brand formally launched the model to the market, simultaneously announcing pricing and specifications.

The notice comes via an update published to the MG Motor New Zealand website, confirming that the model’s pre-sale allocation is now accounted for.

“The ZS EV Pre Sale allocation has now been exhausted,” states the update. “Register your interest today to be kept informed of any updates about the release of the new ZS EV.”

MG Motor New Zealand later issued a press release acknowledging the new model’s success.

“MG released pricing of the new ZS EV a little over two-weeks ago, at the same time advising of a special offer for the first 500 customers who placed a deposit on the new car,” said MG Motor Australia and New Zealand CEO Peter Ciao.

“The fact we have reached the milestone of 500 customers already cements MG as the trusted and clear leader in affordable EV motoring in the New Zealand market.”

The first 500 ZS EV models sold were to come with a $500 credit towards the cost of an MG ChargeHub wall box.

The news follows reports that MG Motor pre-order figures for the outgoing ZS EV outnumbered the amount eventually supplied earlier this year. It’s unknown whether those who missed out on early pre-orders had the option of shifting their orders to the impending updated model.

As previously reported, the new ZS EV features a facelift, and a new battery pack in the form of a 51kWh unit capable of 320km of range on a single charge. New Zealand misses out on the larger 72kWh battery offered overseas.

Two specifications are available; the entry-level Excite ZS EV model priced from $49,990 and the more upscale Essence ZS EV model priced from $52,990.

The ZS EV has helped the recently relaunched MG brand gain notoriety in New Zealand. It continues to be the cheapest new electric vehicle in the country; the Clean Car Discount chopping a further $8,625 rebate off the sticker price.

Dealer deliveries of the new MG ZE EV are set to commence in Q3 of 2022.
