Kia NZ lifts prices for electric EV6 by $5000
Kia’s local arm has increased prices for its fully electric EV6, with the entry-level long-range variant now priced above the government’s Clean Car Discount threshold.
The pricing changes see each EV6 trim level’s price increase by a flat $5000. This means the nameplate now starts at $77,990 for the rear-wheel drive Air Standard Range 58kWh model, instead of the previous $72,990.
One of the model’s key benefits at its local launch was the entry-level rear-wheel drive Air Long Range 77kWh being priced underneath the government’s $80,000 Clean Car Discount threshold at $78,990.
It is now priced from $83,990, meaning it no longer qualifies for the rebate.
The EV6’s remaining variants, the all-wheel drive Air Long Range and the GT-Line, have had their prices increase from $94,990 to $99,990 and from $106,990 to $111,990, respectively.
AutoTalk has requested comment from a Kia New Zealand representative.
The price change comes amid wide price increases for electric vehicles worldwide. Many of these increases stem from rising inflation, supply chain issues, high demand, and COVID-19 restrictions.
The EV6 has enjoyed a strong debut in the New Zealand market. It was the second most popular electric vehicle in May, with 80 registrations.
The EV6’s mechanical cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, also recently had its prices increased. Although in its case the changes only apply to mid- and high-spec variants.
The entry-level Ioniq 5 58kWh and 72kWh rear-wheel drive are still $79,990 and $89,990 a piece.
The 72kWh all-wheel drive and Elite have both had their prices increased by $1000 to $95,990 and $97,990, respectively.
And the Limited flagship has had its price increased by $2000 to $111,990.
The Tesla Model 3 has also had its prices raised across the board, as part of price increases that have impacted the nameplate worldwide.
