Octopus Energy customers who charge their EVs at ChargeNet nationwide can now add that cost to their bill.

The first energy retailer to offer its EV-owning customers the ability to add public charging fees to their main power bill, Octopus Energy has expanded its customers’ charging network under a new partnership with ChargeNet.

“We’re a newcomer to Aotearoa’s energy market, and we’re here with the express goal of making it easy to run an EV,” says Octopus Energy NZ chief customer officer Margaret Cooney.

“Despite a challenging energy environment, we’re committed to climate action. We know some of the biggest barriers for Kiwis considering running an EV is where to charge and how to pay.

“We’re delighted to be able to expand our add-to-bill benefit to our EV-owning customers all over Aotearoa, particularly with holidays around the corner.”

Octopus Energy launched here in June, shortly thereafter announcing a partnership with OpenLoop, giving Octopus customers the convenience of paying fees from those public charging stations as part of the monthly household power bill.

Counties Energy-owned OpenLoop has about 30 charging stations concentrated primarily between south Auckland and Waikato.

This month Octopus has expanded the offering to include ChargeNet, with more than 280 charge points installed between Cape Reinga and Bluff.

Cooney says Kiwi EV drivers’ summer road trips just got that little bit easier as a result.
