Wellington Tesla showroom coming in late 2023

Tesla is reportedly inching closer to opening its second New Zealand showroom, in the form of a new site in Ngauranga Gorge, Wellington.

A report published by Stuff indicates that the site is set to be larger than the brand’s sole showroom on Karangahape Road in Auckland, adding that it’s scheduled to open in late 2023.

The site will be built on 1 Malvern Road, next to the Centennial Highway (part of SH1). The 9000m² site is set to feature a 3500m² showroom.

The long-term lease property is under the management of Bayleys. It states that Gibbons Co is handling the development.

“This eye catching brand new facility will stand out in all aspects,” reads the Bayleys property listing.

“As a passive investment it offers you a new long term lease, fixed annual rental increases and a world famous tenant.

“As an opportunity here is your chance to own an eye catching generic building in Wellington’s premier service location.”

While Tesla has set up a network of delivery centres around the country, its Karangahape Road facility remains its only fully fledged showroom in the country.

The multi-level facility features an owner’s lounge, service department, showroom, an underground charging area for Tesla owners, and a delivery bay.

The news comes amid another strong year of local deliveries for the American EV manufacturer.

Its recently launched Model Y was the country’s most popular new vehicle in September, with the company on target to be the most popular EV brand of 2022.
